Educational Center Erasmus University Medical Center - Claus en Kaan Architecten

This design is prompted by the desire for a better integration of all the teaching facilities connected with the Medical Centre.

Educational Center Erasmus University Medical Center, Rotterdam (The Netherlands)

The Medical Centre thereby hopes to optimise the synergy between the departments, their staff and their expertise. This ambition calls for a new building that matches both the goals and the existing buildings on location.

342f_education_center_erasmus_university_medical_center_rotterdam__mvm__2__large

Educational Center Erasmus University Medical Center, Rotterdam (The Netherlands)

The design, however, also contributes to a better integration and linking of the entire Erasmus Medical Centre with the city. In that process the Westzeedijk, but especially the adjacent Museumpark, must be transformed from barriers into a turntable or meeting point.

342f_education_center_erasmus_university_medical_center_rotterdam__bg__4__large

Educational Center Erasmus University Medical Center, Rotterdam (The Netherlands)

After all, other institutions border on this park which also contribute to an urban culture such as the museums, the Kunsthal, the Medical Faculty, the Polytechnic, and the Erasmiaans Gymnasium. The urban and cultural potential of the park and its potential as a flywheel have hardly been exploited so far.

342f_education_center_erasmus_university_medical_center_rotterdam__svd__1__large

The idea of a turntable and meeting point can also be seen inside the building itself. Various components of health care will be represented with their teaching institution in the new Teaching Centre. During their study, students can meet and exchange ideas with colleagues from related disciplines.

The master plan, with a strategy and sketch design, envisages a large study landscape as the focal point of the Teaching Centre where all students, teachers and members of staff will be able to meet one another.

Residence Hall for the University in Seville - Juan Pedro Donaire Arquitectos, ssw arquitectos

The project is located in the east of Seville (Spain) in a new development area of the city. The program comprises 32 affordable housing and a services area for its users. The point of the project is the relationship with the surrounding green areas in two of its four boundaries.

7837_03_large

The project is organized in parallel strips which relate the required different uses: housing, recreation area, common services and parking.

7837_05_large

The accommodations, solved as three story building, are located in one edge of the plot and visually connected with the larger scale park.
The common services strip is a single ground level lying centered on the plot. It separates car parking from other uses.

7837_06_large

The security enclosure required is determinant in the development of the project. So ‘the wall’ becomes the discourse to generate all spaces. Its folds create the access to the plot, its openings induce a relationship with adjacent green areas…

7837_13_large

The main strip, dedicated to Common Services, is solved with a roof resting on ‘the wall’, glass enclosures to recreation area and colored panels to the car park.

7837_11_large

The accommodation strip ‘looks’ into the courtyard, facing south. The accesses take place through galleries. It makes possible optimization of circulation with only one vertical core, complying at the same time with evacuation path of egress required by fire codes.

7837_16_large

The south facing lends the building the greatest use natural lighting.
Cantilever and micro-perforated fabric sliding panels are used as passive measures to control solar radiation and minimize energy consumption.

7837_20_large

In order to an efficient construction only one type of accommodation is designed in the project, except those adapted for disabled access. Regarding this, floor plans are very flexible with the purpose of accommodate the variety of users. The size of the rooms allows different possibilities to arrange the furniture and so their use. Each unit expands to the gallery as a space of interaction with neighbors.

7837_25_large

Each two accommodations, systems are concentrated on a single vertical shaft, minimizing length and also being accessible from the gallery in every story.

American Express Community Stadium - KSS

The widely acclaimed Amex Community Stadium for Brighton & Hove Albion FC was completed in time for the 2011-12 season, marking a new era for the Club. The new venue proved so popular with the Club’s fan base that a further 8,000 seats were incorporated within the established envelope to meet increased demand, taking the final capacity to over 30,000.

Kss_amexstadium_01_large

View from Falmer Village

The site in Falmer lies next to an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in the South Downs, and this in turn inspired the sweeping architectural form of the stadium. The stands nestle gently into the landscape, and the curved roof structures evoke the forms of the rolling hill backdrop. The facades are cut into the hillside to reduce the visible bulk, and the resultant form presents a dramatic gateway to Brighton along the busy A27.

Kss_amexstadium_02_large

Approach from Falmer Station

The design of the interior hospitality spaces reflects the “Seagulls” unique personality and is influenced by both Brighton’s seaside location and the stadium’s position within the rolling landscape setting. Each suite is designed for match day and non-match day usage, and has its own signature personality based on metal themes, organic shaped suspended ceilings and funky furniture. The internal fitting out also includes the museum, retail store and coffee shop, where the bold use of colour, quirky graphics and way finding again reinforces the Club’s message.

Riqualificazione del centro di Lanzada (So) - Alberto Bertolini e Alessandra Galli

0

Our new 25,000 capacity stadium for Le Havre AC was won in design competition, and is Europe’s first “energy positive” stadium.

Kss_lehavre_01_large

Night view

The brief from the Club was to design a landmark building that would sit proudly at the entrance to the Port City of Le Havre, and a venue that would deliver the “English stadia experience”.

Kss_lehavre_02_large

The port of Le Havre

The design concept reflects the history of the Club (including its English ancestry!) and the pixelated ETFE shell cladding imitates the two core elements of sea and sky and acts as a shining beacon for the city day and night.

We are the architects for an exciting project at a key junction in downtown Victoria –Pandora and Government overlooking Centennial Square at the gateway to Chinatown. The proposal retains the historic façade and the majority of the original building. A new six-story building stands beside the Plaza turning the corner to face Centennial Square and wrapping around behind the existing building. A public park and sidewalk café will be created on the widened Pandora frontage.

Wenlock Road - Hawkins\Brown

0
0

Hawkins\Brown and Regal Homes have received planning permission from the London Borough of Hackney for a new 6,750 sq m mixed-use development. The building is located on Wenlock Road, Hackney within the Regents Canal Conservation Area.

Hb_wenlock_1_forbesmassie_large

The Wenlock Road development consists of 10 storeys, comprising 4,650 sq m residential units, and 1,190 sq m commercial units located at street level. The proposal has a unique cruciform plan, which is staggered on each level to allow all 50 residential units benefit from at least 2, if not 3 aspects. This design strategy maximises light and ventilation into the whole flat plan and creates space for generous east and west facing terraces, as well as generous open terrace at first floor. This not only gives the development a unique residential offer but also results in a dynamic form when seen in the long view from Regent’s Canal.

Hb_wenlock_2_forbesmassie_large

The main carcass of the building will be constructed of solid cross-laminated timber, a highly sustainable, modern material which is manufactured off-site. With its highest point 10 storeys high, once built it will be the tallest cross- laminated timber building in Europe and match the world record, which is currently under construction in Australia.

Hb_wenlock_3_forbesmassie_large

The cross laminated elevations will be clad in slatted larch. Along the Wenlock Road elevation a dark brick screen completes the street elevation, which forms the edge of the conservation area. Once built the scheme will be named Banyan Wharf in reference to the banyan tree, which has a similar sculptural appearance.

Address: 17 – 21 Wenlock Road, Hackney, London N1 7SL
Size (internal sq m): 6,750 sq m (Total)
