An office, a warehouse, plus a residence for family expansion. According to an initial requirement of the project owner, Khun Noppawarat Pornputhakul, the main functions of T-House were created to support her family business, a cloth wholesaller from Pratunam District. To maintain the circulations and routine of the old house in Nonthaburi Province, a new built needed to be not just only a residence for an expanding family plus a small garment storage, but also needed to include an additional space for a new office and prepare an area for a further phase of family extension.

To aggregate the owner’s aspiration with a design, EKAR pulled out the essences of Pornputhakul family and blended them together with Thai living habit and Western ideal; a mixture of a Tropical Architecture with Modernity, to result a simple-formed structure. As a wholesaller of the undergarment, this cloth line was designed to be simple and monochrome mainly using white, grey and black. Because of holding a believe which the underwear needed to be shown focusing on its cutting and fabric more than its striking patterns, thus EKAR introduced this characteristic through the house with an idea of minimalism.

‘Jai Baan or a heart of the house’ locating perfectly at the heart of this two-storey dwell. This centered piece is composed of two crossing staircases functioning to connect all rooms on the second level. One performed itself laying on a T-shaped layout. It ties the working spaces between two floors together; the main working area on the ground floor and the executive office on the second floor. Meanwhile, another staircase is working to connect the private spaces; living area, bedrooms, kitchen of the first floor, and two bedrooms on the second floor.

At Jaibaan, architects carefully concerned an issue of energy-saving. EKAR placed three small overhead skylights on the rooftop in order to limit the amount of heat accessing the house. The heat will reach only the top volume of the staircases, the circulation which considered to be the least usage area of the house. Architects also inserted an idea of putting numerous cotton stripes weaving above the stairs. With its material profile; translucent but transparent, it helps screening the direct sunlight to achieve the lower volume. In the same time of representing itself as the iconic of this house, the characteristic of these hanging fabrics remind the dwellers of the famiy business and the history in which the family has been through. The layers of the cotton shadings attempt to separate the public and private space apart, meantime, give the sense of the occupacy between the outsiders and the habitants.

By stacking two T-shaped staircases, the designers intended to create the crossed circulation between two zones, the public zone and the private zone. As a result, an executive room on the second floor is able to view the activities of the habitant happened on the ground floor through the double-volume space. Two bedrooms on the second floor were also placed facing each other on the opposite sides. Both are connecting together with the bridge, thus the owner is able to see the working area down below at all time. Living space on ground floor was planned despite the criteria of owner’s mother who would like to have a traditional Thai living room, one that consisted ‘Tang or big wooden sofa bed.’ The designer, therefore, transformed the form of the olden Tang using the western-styled sofa to form a new different shape with multi-functions of sofa bed. The transformation of cotton is also brought to apply with the ceiling pattern to make the house more unique.

A space to refresh your heart and mind.

This design is for an old and dear stylist friend that decided to venture out on his own. He wanted a space where people to get a haircut and leave with their hearts and minds feeling refreshed. We started by looking for an appropriate space together, and found one on a corner lot.

The name RE-EDIT is about editing something that already exists to bring out and preserve inherent value.

To make it possible for the owner to freely edit the layout, we hung the mirrors and shelves from a ceiling grid with hooks and ropes rather than attaching them to walls.

We kept the existing façade and painted it grey to reflect the new tenant. The interior duplicates this façade, blurring the boundary between the inside and outside. Two sides of this corner property are left open while the thinnest of curtains cover the windows, limiting the view from outside. The curtains diffuse the natural light that fills the salon into a pleasant glow requiring no artificial lighting during the day.

Red and yellow sampled from re-edited light fixtures were incorporated into the space as accent colors.

We created a feeling of freedom and lightness in this rejuvenating salon space and hope that many people will leave with their hearts and minds refreshed.

The project of Gavà is a block of social housing, developed by Aram Foundation. Since the project’s inception in 2009 until the completion of the work in 2013, public and bank’s helps have suffered such deep changes that have destabilized, mainly to citizens in need of affordable housing, and also, to foundations or companies that promote this type of activity.

It is a multi-family housing building consisting of 30 homes, 6 per plant, of 2 and 3 bedrooms.

The project is developed in the Partial Plan of the sector “Riera de San Llorenç” Gavà with use of generally protected housing scheme, as provided in its management.

The planning provides a specific volume alienated the street; parallel to this, the site has a steep slope that optimizes the parking floor and provides it with ventilation and natural light.

The project is built with industrial systems in its structure, enclosure and some elements of its facilities.

The structure is made of concrete, based on load-bearing walls, columns and hollow core slabs. A light ventilated facade of corrugated sheet covers the entire building, allowing continuity, a unique texture and weightlessness. The facade is customized by the spacious balconies of each dwelling. Systems of centralized facilities are proposed to ensure maximum efficiency; solar panels feed domestic hot water and give support to heating. Control and monitoring of each housing is planned is introduced to ensure smooth operation an energy management.

Muka Arquitectura’s ribbed concrete residence completes the “first piece of the urban puzzle” for a largely undeveloped area of the Spanish city Ciudad Real. The local branch of Muka Arquitectura (Madrid HQ, Málaga & Ciudad Real) designed the Fuensanta House for a solitary plot on outskirts of Ciudad Real. With plans for the adjacent plots uncertain, the architects designed a fortress-like block, featuring ribbed concrete walls topped by a pitched roof, which rests on two chunky abutments that project above the structure. A small doorway is recessed into the brown concrete facade.

“Due to the uncertainty of the formal volumetry of the adjoining plots, still unbuilt, and compulsory abutment on both ends for this row-house type, we decided to raise two volumes of 3.6 and 1.8 meters wide respectively at each end of the plot,” explained the architects. Three delicate glass boxes run the height of the facade, housing a bathroom, bar and staircase. White frosted glass, with a ridged texture that resonates with the concrete, veils the spaces while allowing light to penetrate the plan.

“Any reference to the domestic dimension of the elements is hidden,” said the architects. “There are no surrounding houses, typological references or architectural legacy that could serve at some point as an architectural tool in the design of the house.”

“The project will acquire complete sense once the rest of the plots around the house will be built. Meanwhile, the first piece of the urban puzzle forms the first notes of the urban melody in Ciudad Real,” they added. A double-height void cuts through the core of the building. A narrow galley kitchen and adjoining dining room are set to one side of this space, with a toilet and storage room located directly below at basement-level. A reception room, garage and utility room are located on the other.

Porthole skylights are punched through the concrete ceiling and wall of the kitchen, casting shafts of the light onto the walls. The atrium is crossed by a hanging corridor that connects a master bedroom located in the larger of the side blocks, with a sauna in the other. Strips of light shine through slits in the steel base plate of the elevated walkway, which is attached to the ceiling by a row of metal cables. Sunlight entering the building through the three glass bays in the facade creates patterns on the textured concrete walls that line the space.

“The ocher broken concrete has a magnificent contrast with light and shadows,” said the architects. “The housing offers a palette of colours and intensities that varies along the day.” Four concrete cuboids are set behind the walkway, filling the space between the two end blocks. Two contain double-height bedrooms lined with wood panels that were designed to emphasise the verticality of the space, according to the architects. The other two blocks, which host two-storey spaces with bathrooms at ground level and studies above, are conjoined to the bedrooms.

Curved metal rungs ascend the sheer wooden walls in the bedrooms to glass-fronted perches that protrude from each study. A strip of glazing cuts through the back wall of each bedroom cubicle, providing light from the building’s rear facade, and trio of teardrop-shaped bulbs also hangs over each of the spaces. Up-lights run around the exterior of the four volumes, highlighting the crevices and chips in the concrete walls.

“Artificial lighting highlights a series of cracks in the concrete, as seamless, continuous strips where low-consumption lighting LEDs are located,” said the architects.

Vista della "piazza"

- Principi ispiratori Il nostro intento e la nostra idea primaria sono quelli di far conoscere l’azienda, mostrando al cliente la storia, il presente, il futuro, i dettagli tecnici, i prodotti, ma specialmente le realizzazioni. Quello che si è cercato di fare è stato portare nello showroom il lavoro di ogni singolo dipendente, mostrare ai visitatori non solamente il prodotto, ma la sua collocazione nel contesto “casa”, offrirgli una visuale che ritroverà davanti ai propri occhi quando, dopo una lunga giornata di lavoro, raggiungerà il proprio focolare. “Il cliente dovrà infatti, essere protagonista e nello stesso tempo trovare risposta alle proprie esigenze, immaginare ciò che non si vede, toccare con mano ciò che non immaginava, ma che vedendolo rievoca la propria abitazione”(cit. Bando).

- Casa Tekla – Benvenuti a Casa Nostra Da qui il nome e lo slogan del nostro progetto ” Casa Tekla – Benvenuti a Casa Nostra” che vuole sia dare l’immagine di un ambiente familiare, sia evidenziare l’etica di un’azienda e il suo modo di approcciarsi al cliente. Il progetto, è stato concepito in tre step d’evoluzione. Si espone di seguito il “terzo step” che è anche l’evoluzione finale e subito a seguire spiegheremo i passaggi che porteranno al raggiungimento di “Casa Tekla”.

- Il progetto al suo culmine La collocazione dello stabile rispetto alla strada principale è incompatibile con la realizzazione di vetrine espositive che possano metter in luce i prodotti e attirare i clienti; si è pensato quindi di attuare delle soluzioni che incuriosiscano il cliente dall’esterno, invitandolo però ad entrare per non perdersi il “meglio”. Il prodotto da esporre infatti è frutto di anni d’esperienza e d’innovazione tecnologica di un’azienda; un “oggetto” che va toccato con mano e provato. La zona attualmente allestita a showroom è stata mutata nella destinazione ma non nella forma; gli spazi sono stati riorganizzati per presentare su una linea temporale, che accompagna i passi del cliente verso l’area espositiva di nuova costituzione, produzioni e strumenti “storici” utilizzati anni addietro, fino ad arrivare a macchine e prodotti di recente fabbricazione; contestualmente sugli schermi a parete, scorreranno le immagini che meglio rappresentano Tekla (prodotti, eventi, ecc.). Superata quest’area si arriva all’ingresso dell’esposizione dove all’interno di “porticati” su elementi aventi la funzione di riscaldare o raffrescare l’ambiente, creando delle isole di “benessere”, sono esposti tutti i prodotti. Questi poi vengono mostrati nella loro naturale collocazione finale all’interno dello spaccato di “città”, che compone la piazza di “Casa Tekla”. Le quattro facciate, ognuna con stile diverso, permetteranno al cliente di vedere il “risultato finale”, potendo provare i prodotti e verificando con i propri occhi che essi si sposano perfettamente con tipologie e stili di fabbricato molto diversi fra loro. Si tenga però presente che i temi da noi proposti sono uno spunto e molte altre soluzioni sono possibili alla definizione della piazza compatibilmente con le esigenze aziendali. Oltre l’area espositiva di circa 450 mq e la zona d’ingresso e presentazione azienda, “Casa Tekla” sarà dotata di: area tecnica aperta al pubblico , uffici direzione, sala progettazione cliente, sala polifunzionale, servizi (area bar e toilette), area “emozionale” e la “piazza” (dove potranno essere esposti una vasta gamma di prodotti per l’esterno).

- L’evoluzione del progetto Sono stati previsti tre step di evoluzione per lo sviluppo di “Casa Tekla” che permetteranno ad un progetto ambizioso di crescere col tempo insieme alla clientela e alle sue esigenze. La differenza fra i tre step consta nell’area espositiva (primo step circa 280 mq, secondo step circa 350 mq, terzo step circa 450 mq) e nei servizi offerti al cliente (rif. grafici di progetto). La filosofia, insieme alle parti principali dell’idea di “Casa Tekla” restano però immutate.

- Ogni centimetro è esposizione Le strategie di marketing scelte sono: maggiore visibilità del sito dall’esterno, esposizione continua e costante (ogni centimetro di “Casa Tekla”è esposizione), flessibilità espositiva (l’esposizione può variare, in modo semplice e con pochi passaggi, a seconda delle esigenze. Il progetto quindi resta valido anche per scenari futuri.

- La gestione di “Casa Tekla” Lo show room è stato pensato per essere autosufficiente. Infatti grazie alla scelta dell’utilizzo di fun-coil elettrici, mascherati all’interno degli espositori, l’unica energia necessaria alla gestione dello stabile è appunto quella elettrica (illuminazione, riscaldamento e attrezzature), che sarà interamente coperta dalla produzione dei pannelli fotovoltaici installati in copertura (circa 300 mq per una potenza di 20 KW di picco). Al fine del contenimento dei consumi saranno comunque installati pannelli isolanti sulle pareti perimetrali e in copertura.

Il progetto ha come obiettivo quello di ricreare un luogo simbolico per sostenere la diffusione della cultura della legalità attraverso attività che coinvolgono i cittadini e in particolare i giovani. Per l’alto valore simbolico che l’immobile rappresenta, è necessario che esso sia un luogo in cui si svolgono attività sociali e artistiche che abbiano una ricaduta positiva nel territorio, con l’obiettivo di creare un luogo di aggregazione per combattere il disagio, l’emarginazione, l’isolamento e la disoccupazione, soprattutto fra i giovani. Il progetto si concentra solamente su una parte dell’edificio, quindi risulta ancora più importante evidenziare il carattere sociale che l’intervento si propone di avere: alcuni accorgimenti tecnici, estetici e cromatici nel trattamento dei prospetti, consentono di mettere in luce la nuova immagine dell’edificio, che convive con quella vecchia. Il progetto prevede al primo piano la realizzazione di una sala conferenze di 55 metri quadri, in grado di accogliere circa 30 partecipanti, utilizzabile anche come laboratorio teatrale e spazio per esposizioni. Sono previsti anche dei servizi igienici e un locale di deposito, atto a riporre le attrezzature necessarie allo svolgimento di attività teatrali e di cine-proiezione. La sala gode di un accesso indipendente ma al contempo è integrata all’intera struttura tramite uno spazio a doppia altezza, localizzato al di sopra dell’area dedicata all’oratore, che lo collega attraverso una scala alla zona sovrastante e che presenta una grande apertura sul paesaggio del golfo di Castellammare. I due livelli sono collegati da una scala interna. Al secondo piano, si prevede una zona accoglienza dalla quale è possibile accedere agli altri spazi del centro. In particolare, l’ambiente dedicato ai laboratori artistico e musicale si configura come uno spazio versatile e adattabile ad attività differenti. Il laboratorio nel complesso ha una superficie di 75 metri quadri, divisibile in due ambienti rispettivamente di 38 e 37 metri quadri. I laboratori costituiscono il proseguimento dello spazio espositivo del piano inferiore, un unico spazio fruibile per grandi eventi, ma divisibile in maniera versatile all’occorrenza. Allo stesso livello si trovano lo spazio per l’accoglienza, una sala informatica e sala lettura da intendersi come un luogo di incontro e confronto, un luogo in cui le associazioni possono sviluppare al meglio le proprie attività. Il centro di aggregazione giovanile ospiterà inoltre uno sportello di orientamento professionale e di tutoraggio per recupero scolastico nonchè uno sportello di assistenza psico-sociale in cui trovare un supporto psicologico e una consulenza su problematiche reali quali lavoro, istruzione, sostegno ai disabili e ai portatori di handicap.

Si tratta della realizzazione delle opere necessarie al totale recupero di una struttura storica in grave stato di abbandono con destinazione residenziale, direzionale ed ad autorimessa interrata. Il complesso ex Monastero Domenicano dei Santi Giacomo e Filippo (1224), vincolato ai sensi dell’art.157 del D. Lgs 22/01/2001 n. 42, è costituito da un chiostro medioevale definito da volumetrie storiche, a forma irregolare, articolate su quattro livelli. Parte di queste volumetrie è crollata e parte ha conservato la sua fisionomia originaria caratterizzata da strutture murarie in pietra e mattoni con volte in mattoni anche affrescate con decorazioni di interesse storico. In particolare nella sala Capitolare sono presenti affreschi attribuiti a Paolo Gerolamo Piola e a G.A. Boni (circa 1710). Il progetto prevede la demolizione e ricostruzioni di parte delle due ali (nord e ovest) delle quattro che definiscono lo spazio aperto del chiostro ed il completo restauro di quelle sud ed est. Negli spazi aperti sul lato nord viene realizzata un’autorimessa interrata su cinque livelli. L’intervento contempla la realizzazione di con- solidamenti delle strutture esistenti attraverso interventi specialistici e di nuova costruzione in struttura metallica e in cemento armato. Per quanto riguarda il parcheggio lo stesso è previsto previa la realizzazione di paratie in cemento armato e tiranti perimetrali. La durata complessiva dei lavori è stata di 1503 giorni consecutivi.

PROJECT: This is a Wonder Machine that create artifacts from the data flow generated by the movement of skaters. The movement s captured and transformed in a data flow which directly goes to the CNC and laser machines. Those machines are able to work without a real base but just with digital inputs, creating artifacts that are shaped according to the data flow generated by the action of the skaters.

Situato nel belvedere del Parco di Montereale a Potenza il giardino sotto i tigli viene ideato, finanziato (10 sponsor privati hanno adottato le 10 piccole aiuole) e realizzato in poco più di un mese da: Paesaggi Meridiani, NUR, Amici di Montereale e PAZ. “Un giardino inteso come luogo prezioso e accogliente. Ma anche promessa di tranquillità e sorpresa, capace di proteggere, nel suo grembo e con il suo recinto, i beni più preziosi, il “meglio”. Un giardino, un laboratorio di relazioni, una sfida al rumore e alla fretta, un bellissimo luogo “inutile”, giardino politico e di resistenza, dimora, casa. Alla base pochi principi: la collaborazione, l’attenzione alla città, l’amicizia, la creazione di uno spazio incentrato sulle persone, la riappropriazione degli spazi pubblici da parte dei cittadini; e poi, ancora, la scelta di mantenere un basso costo e la rapidità del passaggio dalla progettazione alla sua effettiva realizzazione. Il tutto reso possibile dalla passione di chi quel giardino l’ha fortemente voluto (NUR, ADM-PAZ, Paesaggi Meridiani) e di chi ha permesso (con l’aiuto economico) di prepararlo in poco tempo.” (Luca Rando-ADM/PAZ)

‘KHEOPS’ is Suspension light consisting of an withe beech sleeve and pyramidal structure created in 3d printing that protects and sanctifies the light source, developed by belgian designer Maxime Lagny.

This light consists of two entities: it can be used as accent lighting or assist lamp. Its pyramidal shape is inspired by ancient Egypt.

The new Ford Otosan Research and Development Centre facilitates in İstanbul, located on the edge of European route E 80, also known as Trans-European Motorway (TEM) , extending from Portugal to Turkey, connecting 10 countries. The new R&D centre operates next to the Istanbul junction of TEM and is part of a larger complex of Ford which contains the marketing offices, training centre and stocking facilities. The context that surrounds this section of the TEM is a typical highway adjacent, uncharacteristicly structured urban fabric occupied in its majority by indurstrial buildings of varying scale and porportion which service themselves from this main artery.

The new R&D building is the fourth design centre of FORD fully equipped with high-end technologies and infrastructure capable of serving 1500 people in 38.000 sqm.The program of the centre covers offices, labs, cafe, restaurant, auditorium, exhibition halls and an advanced design centre. . The new design deals with this same challenge of creating a peaceful working and studying environment for creative facilities next to a noisy and polluted traffic artery. Distant from the city center and any practical means of transportation, accesability is guaranteed by the use of private transportation services. Which further poses the central need to create a stimulating ambiance for its 1500 personel somewhat isolated within this context.

The complex has been shaped by two monoliths seperated by a central courtyard. Block A, to the north, acts as a barrier against prevailing wind, noise and air pollution from the motorway, while block B protects from southern sun and the presence of more intensive warehouse and distribution facilites of the campus. Together they protect the island like internal courtyard within. Here,users of the centre have breaks, meet and rest. Yet, this opening gesture can only be perceived when approached from the main entrance point on Hasan Basri Street, perpendicular to the motorway. The massive image of the blocks is deceiving: as the perforated aluminium clad elevations that wrap the complex, transform to become horizontal shaders on the internal facades overlooking the courtyard, thus creating a sharp and surprising contrast responsive to solar orientation. The corrugated section and slanted surfaces of the metal facade provide self shading for the skin which in turn gathers and disspates this excess heat over time. This visually results in a horizontal contrast between white and shadow that augment its streamlined effect materialized from context specific tensions of sun and wind.

Main entrance and the courtyard

Big atriums in each block provide natual daylight for all office floors down to the first basement. Keeping the same approach lightwells over the internal garden provide natural light to the cafeteria space below. Most of the technical equipments such as HVAC systems and electricity panels has been located over the roof because of high land values and hidden behind the mesh facade.
