After the Second World War, an urgent housing demand spread on the 50’s decade in Europe. The challenge for architecture and construction was to provide decent housing as fast as possible, covering a massive demand of dwellings. Past decade 50’ and 60’s involved a frenzied construction activity, and to speed up the progress, industrialization process was the key to make a quickly response to those needs. Another important aspect on those years was the introduction of modern concepts of urbanism with compact block building types with varying density and large green spaces around them to respond to the needs and concerns of the people in relation to the public outdoor space. Ellebo complex is a clear example of the era kind of construction buildings, where implementation meets modern standards of open block and whose construction was carried out by prefabrication systems. More than half a century later, these buildings need to be renovated to suit current conditions and mainly, to be modified using efficient energy and better quality elemets and materials. Comfort and sustainability should be the main criteria in all buildings proceedings, that weren’t solved before due to the need, and which are indispensable today. In 1989 arises severals improvements on buildings consisting of the overall implementation of facade isolation by adding new thick exterior home improvement with a minimal extension of the terraces with a suspended balcony-gallery. Those performances were a temporary solution to needs and today these solutions are obsolete so comprehensive reform is required to improve the overall comfort of the building and its energy efficiency by allowing improving the quality of life of its inhabitants and reducing impact on the environment. The project proposal has a realistic care for the inhabitants of Ellebo Housing Complex, as well as the intention of creating a new improved built surrounding for Balleurp.
