Metropolitana Linea 1 has been designed to connect all transport types across Naples by offering a series of ‘hubs’ along the route allowing passengers to change for rail, airline, bus and ferry services at different stations. The project implies a policy of enhancement of public realm surrounding the hubs. AWP was invited by Rogers Stirk and Harbour to join the design team as landscape architects to deliver a concept for a multimodal park, parking areas, access to the metro and a retail “piazza” for the new underground train station. The challenge was to change the perception of a big multimodal parking, break its monotony and design it as if it were a park. It is adequate to integrate principles of efficient water management and of a sustainable design.
