The market hall is situated on the border of the modern and the historical urban units of the town of Kladno. This area is currently quite disparate and from the urban point of view also unfinished. The building itself completes the city line and at the same time divides the remaining triangular area into two spaces with different characters – the city one along the main avenue, the other peaceful one with the park arrangement. The material solution of surfaces answers the character of each part – the space with the market hall itself along the road is covered with raw concrete. The park space has threshing floor surface with minimal maintenance demands.

Rather than creating separate stalls, the market hall is handled as an independent object that is a partner to the surrounding buildings. The roofed construction creates a space that, by its size, answers the scale of the site. The market hall allows year round use, the space offers the opportunity to host events of different extent. In the roofed part, there are 36 stalls installed – in case of a bigger market event – there is an opportunity to add mobile stalls and use up the whole area of the triangular space. When there aren’t any events at the market hall, the construction serves as a roofed bus stop. The design includes a small object for maintenance and toilets.

The construction evokes the industrial architecture of Kladno. The structure is wooden and consists of posts anchored into steel bases. Roof consists of nailed beams. The goal was to create a temporary structure that can be undone and is an economic solution for the city of Kladno to realize. The construction is modular (8×8 meters) with a potential to be extended in the future. The concrete stalls are fixed to the floor and become town furnishings – they create the „interior“ of the town.
