The Athletes’ village was designed to be one big open public space, which brings people together in one continuous public space, celebrating the urban life and offering a true alternative to the traditional traffic-based city structure. This village includes in its programme a composition of four zones arranged over four quarters. With this project Saraiva + Associados’ intention was to project a public and open space which should proportionate great living conditions for those who will participate in the Winter Universiades of Kazakhstan in 2017. Despite of being intended to be a big open public space with multiple influences from the city context, this project, has a close relation to the surrounding landscape which is the mountain skyline. Regarding to this issue we tried to project something remarkable with a perfect integration in the site and, this includes, a very efficient energetic plan for this complex.

This village is divided into four zones: The Operational Zone; The International Zone; The Residential Zone; The Logistics Zone. With this organization we wanted to create a high functional and secure complex which should provide excellent living conditions to the occupants. The Operational Zone is where those who enter the village go through various procedures and obtain the necessary certificates and in-village transport services. This zone includes the visitor reception (Media Center, VIP Reception, Supermarket, Currency Exchange, Franchise) and the welcome center. The International Zone is where business, leisure, recreational, protocol, sports information, conference and other services are provided to the incoming teams. This is where we will have the welcome ceremonies’ and will be a space where athletes’ will communicate with each other. The Residential Zone provides the athletes and team officials accommodation and catering services. This zone includes the athletes’ apartments, athletes’ Dining Hall, Waiting Area and over staff’s accommodation and staff’s Dining Hall. At least, the Logistics Zone offer warehousing services for the village and laundry services for athletes. This includes the logistics center and the laundry center.
