The SCHAUSTELLE’s themes derive from the character of the SCHAUSTELLE itself. On the one hand, they are produced by the specific features of the temporary building’s architecture, such as recyclability, mobility and the ephemeral, transparency, interconnection with the urban space and sensuality.

On the other hand, the themes result from the interplay of the four museums in close cooperation with external partners. The transdisciplinary aspect is not just to be seen as building a bridge between the fields of architecture, art, graphic work and design, but also as interacting with other disciplines, such as the performing arts and science. In addition to this, the concept implicates the active involvement and participation of the public.

Based on the motto The SCHAUSTELLE creates itself, some of the SCHAUSTELLE’s elements will be developed gradually, like the projected lounge area, the seating and the SCHAUSTELLE’s surroundings. Provisional and spontaneous solutions are welcome; the agenda is processually based. A pivotal recurring theme in our program is the critical examination of the question: ‘What is the museum of the future like?’
