Located at the heart of Ha Tinh city and on a street with many governmental offices, the Coordination Committee SRDP-IWMC Ha Tinh Office is the headquarter of the SRDP project (IFAD organization) and IWMC project (ODA funded by Belgian government). The total cost is limited and the existing office furniture should be reused as much as possible.

H&P Architects — SRDP-IWMC HA TINH Office

Climate change is a remarkable issue and has affected comprehensively on the Ha Tinh’s urban and rural areas. Moreover, the rapid urbanization has been making the rural area imbalanced. The agricultural land has been reduced, which seriously impacts on the stable lifestyle of the local community.

H&P Architects — SRDP-IWMC HA TINH Office

The project’s design concept is a synthesis of Sedentary Cultivation and Settlement aiming to three objectives: Iconic imagery + Low cost + Quick construction.

H&P Architects — SRDP-IWMC HA TINH Office

The three-storey building block is placed to East-West direction. The two upper floors are covered by a lattice structure full of plants and crops which we call the Vertical Field. The structure which is comprised of 400mmx400mm concrete blocks stacked vertically embraces the entire inside work space. The irrigation system is integrated inbetween the blocks’ joints, minimizing the negative impact of the local urban and climatic problems such as noise, air pollution, overheat and typhoon. At the same time this agriculture-friendly working environment creates a different experience for the users who can plant vegetable by themselves.

H&P Architects — SRDP-IWMC HA TINH Office

The project is an idea of improving usage of vegetable in urban context and still meets energy demand in the future. The synthesis between agriculture and architecture is the foundation for sustainable development.

Masterplan riuso Mazzoleni - Bacs Architettura, Mauro Accardi, Silvia Buccheri

Bacs Architettura, Mauro Accardi, Silvia Buccheri — Masterplan riuso Mazzoleni

Bacs Architettura, Mauro Accardi, Silvia Buccheri — Masterplan riuso Mazzoleni

SUPERNOVA - Tomas Ghisellini Architetti

A sensitive architectural body absorbs, shuffles and reinterprets some of the characters more intimately tied to the collective image of the city of Bressanone: its beautiful secret courts, arcades and mysterious crossing loggias, the preciousness and the refinement of urban details, the syncopated profiles of architectural scenes, the warmth evoked by the gilded surfaces that cover all the most important symbols of the community.

Tomas Ghisellini Architetti — SUPERNOVA

The new music school in Bressanone is a landscape within the landscape, a kind of environmental extension halfway between city and mountains. Not an insurmountable margin, not a definitive limit or an object in itself concluded or self-referential, but a penetrable body, diaphanous and transparent, inhabiting the urban space and, at the same time, the extraordinary natural context. The new architectural presence is a continuous but porous body: balconies, porches, patios, terraces, overhangs and suspended volumes capture natural light and spectacular panoramic views, creating spaces for which air quality is called to be a decisive added value.

Tomas Ghisellini Architetti — SUPERNOVA

A thin crystal basement, covered with glass panels at different percentages of translucency, gets in touch with the urban ground. This glossy “pillow”, that multiplies the space of the square in an attractive and evanescent double reflection, embraces a half-open court where the piazza itself seems to expand as a fluid substance. Here, an unexpected and surprising open-air room the visitor realizes on two levels once reached, gives access to the school being however a place for representation, meeting, waiting, contemplation, rest.

Tomas Ghisellini Architetti — SUPERNOVA

The crystal basement, which includes at the ground floor the main common areas for the band and students in addition to administrative offices, ideally extends into underground volumes. These ones are partially exposed at the lower level of the court where a second patio, more intimate and concluded, sets up a kind of secret cloister and an intriguing outdoor foyer which can be used in summer the get into the theater directly from the piazza. The lower patio, where a tree is planted as a symbol of growth and cultural roots, will also serve as a safe room for escape in case of emergency.

Tomas Ghisellini Architetti — SUPERNOVA

A long protected “porch of light”, inside the crystal base as well, draws an unconventional place of transition between the new square and the underground parking and commercial spaces. The non-rectilinear path of the porch leads to a sequence of architectural episodes: the volumes of public toilets, the access to the commercial heated gallery, the balcony overlooking the patio of the tree, the half-open passage to the court of the school, the connection (by elevator) to the higher level of the park and the arrival to the piazza walking through a 8-meter high city gate.

Tomas Ghisellini Architetti — SUPERNOVA

As laid on the evanescent crystal pillow, the architectural body hosting the educational spaces of the music school assumes a radically diverse formal and material attitude. A skin of bronze-oxidized aluminum thin elements surrounds an L-shape folded three-dimensional object placed along north and west borders of the building site. The composition this way prepares a great iridescent and mysterious architectural “scene” that opens the square to the mountains profile, leading people’s sight to incredible panoramic views and building a silent dialogue with the metal body of the Vertikale climbing club.

Tomas Ghisellini Architetti — SUPERNOVA

Behind the golden membrane made of thick vertical elements, similar to a giant and fascinating musical stave, lies a dynamic weaving of protected openings the eye perceives at daytime as a rich subplot of lights and darks, at night as a cloud of changing glare and luminescence. The new music school, dressed in gold and light, will become an icon for the city, a contemporary image collective identity will be clinging around.

Tomas Ghisellini Architetti — SUPERNOVA

The building has a strong, unusual and compelling character for Bressanone. Is is thought as a brand new precious and shining jewel.

Nominated for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture – Mies Van Der Rohe Award 2015

A ruin was the starting point for the design of a holiday house in the island of Pico. The project came from the will to maintain a ruin and thinking of a house that would value it, a house that could be modelled to it and take advantage at the same time, offering the most diverse and complex possibilities of living than the former typology.

SAMI - arquitectos — E/C House

Since the building is approached at the level of the covering, because of the slope of the land, we designed all the covering of the project as if they were decks, allowing to be used as sitting places or for contemplation.

SAMI - arquitectos — E/C House

The house, modelled inside the walls of stone, was designed with generous openings, for light to come inside and to contemplation of the landscape. These openings are sometimes lined up, and sometimes not, with the former openings of the ruin, creating new frames and relations with the original limits of the house.

SAMI - arquitectos — E/C House

The project is a movement between a limit line, in stone, and the intervention volumes that are led by that same line, but sometimes flow independently or extend, whenever the necessity of space or of a view is needed.

The permanent exhibition at the Shaikh Salman Bin Ahmed Al Fateh Fort is housed in a free-standing glass pavilion in the eastern courtyard of the historic fort. The pavilion has been designed in a contemporary way, in stark contrast to the historic fort, which is reflected by the glass panels of the pavilion. The project also includes a coffee shop with a terrace overlooking the Wadi Al Hunayniyah as well as a small gift shop. The exhibition counts the history of the Al-Khalifa family through its customs, objects and traditions and is mainly composed of interactive audio-visual exhibits.

Visitors Center at Bu Maher Fort - Roberto Cacciapuoti , Plan Architecture and Design

Bu Maher Fort is located in the south of the city of Muharraq, and was first built during the Portuguese occupation of Bahrain. Renovation works on the fort commenced in the 1970’s, during which only some of it was rebuilt. The fort represents the first step on Pearling Trail, which the Ministry of Culture succeeded in inscribing as a World Heritage Site in 2012. A dedicated visitor center was established next to the fort which houses an illustrated map of the Pearling Trail and models of the sites that can be found along the way. The Bu Maher Fort visitor center aims to introduce the public to the architectural character that went hand in hand with the traditional pearling trade, as well as highlighting its surrounding environment both within Bahrain and beyond, and building an understanding of the social components of that era. Moreover, the Ministry of Culture offers daily trips by sea from the Bahrain National Museum to the Bu Maher Fort shore. These trips help shed light on part of the story of Bahrain’s traditional pearl divers and sailors, and enable people to re-live some of their experiences and sea expeditions, especially as the Bu Maher Fort and its coastline was the spot from which pearling dhows departed and returned many months later.

In 2010, excavation works carried work at the site uncovered its original foundations and dimensions.

Centers of Gravity - Architensions

The vision for the FotoMuzeum Budapest and Hungarian Museum of Architecture emerges from the idea of highlighting the entry gate to the Varosliget Park, framing the monument to the 1956 Hungarian revolution.

Architensions — Centers of Gravity

Summer Aerial View

The urban strategy creates a morphology of a continuous but porous boundary that redefines the site with a prominent entrance to one of the city’s greatest green spaces, and also activates the surroundings functionally and visually, even at night, as the museums glow like lanterns which illuminate the plaza and the park behind.

Architensions — Centers of Gravity

Section Perspective

Both museums are inscribed in a pure rectangular geometry suspended on the ground floor by a fluid concrete structure, and are clad in frosted cast glass. At park level the two museums lobbies face each other and they open to the monument plaza, providing an inviting transparency that draws visitors to events and activities.

Architensions — Centers of Gravity

Hungarian Museum of Architecture Lobby

The façades are composed by modular cast glass panels with a saw tooth section, measuring 3 by 1.80 meters. The prismatic section of the panels respond to the different angles of the sun, diffusing natural light into the public and circulation areas of the museums, but not interfering with the exhibition galleries which have a controlled artificial lighting system.

Architensions — Centers of Gravity

Hungarian Museum of Architecture Vertical Circulation

The overall architectural scheme derives from the specificity of the museums collections, defining a varied yet organic narrative of experience, guiding the visitors through the entire space and different exhibitions.

Architensions — Centers of Gravity

FotoMuzeum Budapest Lobby

The experience of the fotomuzeum galleries is cinematic, composed by partial and framed perspectives, much like the medium of photography and film. The visitors navigate through an alternating rhythm of voids filled with natural light, and then through continuous sloping opaque volumes, where the actual exhibitions take place. The exhibition experience intertwines with elevated green plazas at different levels making the museum an extension of the park. From the prismatic façade the exhibition volumes cantilever out, creating public observation terraces and lounges, framing different views of the city, like the viewfinders and apertures of a camera.

Architensions — Centers of Gravity

FotoMuzeum Budapest Third Floor Garden View

In the Hungarian Museum of Architecture the type of experience can be defined as a series of volumes where time and space collapse, compressing vast areas and eras of architectural knowledge into composed and articulated boxes. The visitors are guided through singular and punctuated exhibition containers that create well defined tectonic boundaries for each type of architectural exhibition.

Architensions — Centers of Gravity

Elevations

The perimeters of these exhibition boxes create openings on the roof that allow controlled sunlight inside the study and archive areas where the natural illumination is much needed. For specific occasions and exhibitions, filtered and attenuated light can penetrate inside the exhibition volumes by the use of an operable roof envelope, further adding to the dynamic and temporal quality of the museum form and experience.

Bridged Living Space - Teruki Takayoshi

Located in a quiet space near a local primary school, the concept for this dwelling started with a dual yard layout, the front for guest parking and an aesthetically prioritised garden at the rear. To effectively use the large amount of outdoor space, we divided the land into two areas, a western garden facing the road and a southern garden which has good sun coverage. The bridged living space serves as a suspended partition between both areas, while also functioning as a carport. Connecting both gardens allows for optimal utilisation, such as camping in the backyard while using the bridged living space as a roof for a barbeque, or accommodating the cards of guests. We designed the interior according to the wishes of the occupants, who are both engaged professionally and wanted a design which minimised housework. As a result, the house features a central stair room, in which all rooms are easily accessible and results in the block based façade. The design also facilitates sun access to every room and effective ventilation. Each room also has visual access to the garden, allowing the occupants to feel the changes of each season.

DYNAMIC INTERFACE FOR HELSINKI

anthony thevenon — GUGGENHEIM HELSINKI Proposal

Located along Eteläsatama, at the crossroads between the historical city, Tähtitorninvuoren Puisto, the Guggenheim is a key element for the improvement of Helsinki’s harbour. Enhancing this latent potential, the museum is imagined as a continuous pedestrian network. The new destination is an epicentre of Helsinki waterfront promenade. The porous organisation of the museum creates diverse urban spaces, which will attract international and local art fellows. New social interactions are conceived and museum activities will inspire art perception for community involvement. Fluid pedestrian arteries create strong connections with the harbour’s existing program’, sewing together the urban fabric. This knitted landscape becomes an extension of the city centre, park and water’s edge. The permeable configuration celebrates human scale while offering to the visitor an intimate “art experience”.

anthony thevenon — GUGGENHEIM HELSINKI Proposal

ART VILLAGENEW URBAN ENTITY The proposed pedestrian routes and social interactions of the Guggenheim will create a new vibrant hub for Helsinki – an “art village”. On the north-west side, the glowing Multipurpose space marks the entry. This urban totem anchors the Guggenheim’s presence and intensifies the relationship with adjacent city. The visitor’s journey is sequenced by the experience of two major open plazas. The northern plaza is oriented towards the historical centre and welcomes visitors by leading them to the Lobby. A Cafe-Gallery, a Finish Design Shop and an Art Bookstore, activate the plaza. Heading south, through the museum’s translucent mass, a quieter moment is experienced by Artist’s Ateliers and Cafe-Gallery, before entering into the southern plaza. A Cafe, Restaurant-Belvedere and independent Performance Space are orientated towards the bay. The centrally located ice ring illuminates the space during winter, while becoming an entertainment water basin during summer. The south plaza allows direct access to Tähtitorninvuoren Puisto via a footbridge over Laivasillankatu. The axis of the pedestrian promenade connects directly to the city grid.

anthony thevenon — GUGGENHEIM HELSINKI Proposal

AERIAL GALLERIES Visible from the northern plaza, the interlacement of the lobby and gallery volumes materializes physical connection and celebrates the start of the art journey. A central gathering space links the 4 major galleries and frames views of city landmarks. The Guggenheim offers a variety of exhibition spaces, ranging from double height volumes, large flexible spaces and intimate galleries. The diversity of spacial opportunities, offers multiple atmospheres and exhibition configurations. FILTRATION& PERCEPTION A common language of grated panels across the facade unifies the Guggenheim and expresses a strong identity. The grated panels act as a game of successive filters. Its simplicity allows an organic adaptation of the envelope to accommodate each program of the museum. Exhibitions and museum activities glow from the exterior, building a visual dialogue with exterior public spaces. Between opacity and transparency, hidden and revealed spaces, the spectator looses perception of the geometry and discerns a certain abstraction of the overall mass. The continuous timber flooring accentuates the interior warmth of the building and the facade filters generates different perceptions/illusions of the surrounds. Between evanescence and contextual reality, Disappearance and appearance, the art operates…

Irene d'Avolio, Altraweb snc • Via G. Marconi 160 Mesagne (Br) — MoVe

Bacs Architettura, Mauro Accardi, Silvia Buccheri — Casa Solari
